Hi Beauties!
There is a ton of stuff going on in the Baker household- hence my once-a-week posts. I swear it’ll get better. Just stick with me for a couple more months. Some of you may be wondering what the title is all about. WELLLLLL…. a couple of weeks ago we found out that the man of the house got into the University of Arizona for graduate school. He has working his butt off trying to get into this program, and we are SO excited. YAY!! It is so nice when good things start to happen, isn’t it? I was starting to forget what that was like for a hot minute there. Anyways, with that acceptance means a move and a job change. Which is a lot to handle by July 1! Because I will also be gone for almost the entire month of June for treatment. Which means I technically only have about 2 weeks to prepare for everything that is going to happen when I get back from treatment. So, instead of being consumed with anxiety and stress, which I would have done just a few months ago, I made a list of priorities:
- Find a place to live
- Find a job
- Budget from now until August
- Pack a box a night
- Sell what no longer serves us
- Box up what can go to a shelter
- Throw out the rest
- Book a U-Haul
- Recruit friends to help with the move on both ends
- Pinterest all of the design ideas
I have to give myself a pat on the back, because I have stuck to this list pretty well. Maybe not in numerical order, but at least I am getting it done, right? I found us a place to live within the first two weeks of knowing that we will be moving. We found a beautiful older home about 10 minutes away from the university with a huge, kick-ass yard for the pup. She is going to lose her MIND. So much space for activities! D and I have been dreaming of having a gorgeous yard for years, so it is nice that it is finally coming to fruition! The U-Haul is booked, and we have recruited friends to help us out with the move, which is awesome. Donuts and coffee for the friends in Chandler, and beer and pizza for the friends in Tucson. Who doesn’t love a good bribe?! I am really loving OfferUp, by the way. It is an awesome app where you can buy or sell pretty much anything. We have sold some textbooks on there, along with an old guitar of David’s. I plan to put some furniture up on there once we get to that point. Speaking of which, we have started packing, which is kind of bittersweet. The home we are in now is the only home we have lived together in! It is weird to think that in just a few months it will not be our space anymore. BUT, a fresh start is exactly what we need right now. We have had a rough go at it with all of my crap going on, so starting new and having an entire city to explore is very exciting for us. I have an ongoing box that keeps getting things added to it to donate to a shelter, which I always feel good about doing. I hate throwing things out that might not serve us anymore, but knowing that those items can do good elsewhere is awesome. We have purged a LOT. I low-key love purging. But that is a post for another day. I honestly don’t think I’d be able to do all of this if I weren’t in the right headspace. Yoga, daily meditation, and journaling have totally been getting me through. I feel like a new human by adding these three things into my routine. Self-care is real, ya’ll! Do yourself a favor and DIVE IN!
What haven’t I done yet? I haven’t found a job. The company I work for is helping me in that respect, which is good. I just hope that they have contracts in a district that is close to us, and that the district has openings in areas that I want to teach. Ideally, I would love to teach special education English again in the high school setting. I have really loved that this year, and would love it even more if I could continue down that route. Keep your fingers crossed for me, and send me all the good vibes! I also haven’t made a budget yet. Because, life. I will get to it at some point. But between all this move stuff, progress reports, review sessions, and finals going on at work, and just keeping the family afloat, I haven’t had a chance. I have probably also procrastinated in that area because who likes to follow a budget? I don’t. BUT sometimes we have to be responsible. As much as we don’t want to be. Ha!
I should also probably start thinking about my trip to Mexico for treatment, and start getting my act together in that respect. I leave 3 weeks from today! I can’t believe it. I have a TON of books that I will be reading if I am able, since I haven’t been able to after work. My eyes are just too tired and I can’t focus for more than a few minutes once I get home. Lyme Brain got me like woah. Here are the books I can’t want to dive into that will be making the trek with me…there is definitely a trend:
- Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
- White Hot Truth by Danielle LaPorte
- You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
I will definitely be writing little reviews as I get through these bad boys! I have heard so many amazing things about each one of the books on the various podcasts I listen to, so I can’t wait to dive in. Other than books and sunscreen, what else do I really need? Definitely oils, but I really don’t leave the house without those beauties.
So that’s what’s been happening on my end. Do you guys have any tips for me? Any words of wisdom as we embark on this new journey? I would love to hear from you!
